Populating data in your CAMS database can be a challenging task, especially when there are several different sources to pull from. It isn’t impossible though and shouldn’t keep you from keeping your data up-to-date.
We were recently presented with a need from a college to import a file of over 39,000 high schools from The College Board into the CAMS high schools table, and they needed it in 2 weeks.
It’s not a complicated problem, but it’s something that almost every college or university has probably encountered. It doesn’t require a complex solution, but sometimes a little extra work goes a long way.
The Solution
To solve their problem, we created a simple application with a few configuration settings in the user interface. After the configuration options were set, they clicked the run button and watched as the high schools were imported. The process can be run as often as they want and it will update existing high schools and create any new ones with data from the file.
The best part, the application is reusable for other imports or automation processes. If another need arises, we simply create a new plugin and they’ve now got another process automated at a fraction of what a full custom solution would cost.
