We came across a project recently through LinkedIn to convert an existing ROI calculator on Mettler-Toledo’s web site for a different product division. Our client had a good idea of what they wanted it to do, they just weren’t sure how to take what they already had and make a new calculator out of it.
After a brief phone call, I was able to figure out what they were looking for. After 30 minutes of research, I was able to pull down the entire calculator from their existing web site and start examining the code.
We knew there was a chance that we’d have to rewrite it from scratch. However, after reviewing the code, it actually looked pretty well put together and was already set up to support multiple languages. It was also using the brand guidelines they had set in place.
After receiving an Excel document with the new calculations they wanted implemented, we were able to turn around the new calculator to them in about a week with the new fields, calculations, and labels. Since we took the time to do some research up front, we were able cut a significant amount of time from the project and save the client some money in the process since they didn’t have to pay for us to rewrite the entire thing from scratch.
